Fort Grey

In 1845 Charles Sturt camped by Fort Grey Basis in his search for an inland sea. At that time there was a little water in the basin, on my visit in 2002 it was bone dry. This old steam engine once pumped water from a well into tanks during drought years. The basin has been full, and history records that waves wrecked the original stone homestead on the Northern Bank. There are white sand dunes on the Eastern shore, but not as big nor as impressive as Lake Mungo.
