View of portion of new woolstore of the Australian Estates and Mortgage Company Limited at New Farm, decorated for the Vice-regal ball held in honour of the Duke and Duchess of York on Thursday 7 April 1927. See: The Queenslander, 14 April, 1927, p. 5; and also 'The Rose Ball at New Farm', The Courier-mail, 8 April, 1927, p. 26. According to The Queenslander, owners of the new woolstore were the A. M. L. & F. Company.
The Courier-Mail states "the area employed for the ballroom was 16,000 square feet, or three times the size of the Crystal Palace". The Royal couple were received at the entrance, and conducted then to the ballroom, where they passed into a large reserved space round which were arranged rows of chairs for the other guests. Decorations included large flags and palms. Tall palms concealed the supporting pillars. Rose and green were the only colours employed. The Trocadero band was stationed on a raised platform, banked with closely-set palm fronds. This dais is visible in the picture. (Description supplied with photograph).
