Picture of / about 'Brisbane' Queensland - Old Queensland Museum, William Street, Brisbane, Queensland, ca. 1885

Erected in 1877-79, this building in William Street first served as the Queensland Museum. In 1902 it was converted into the Public Library of Queensland (renamed the State Library of Queensland in 1971). Designed by George Curtis Walker, the building is made of brick and sandstone, and has eight second-storey columns along the front facade. The Queensland Museum moved to the Exhibition Building premises at Herston in 1899, and later to the Cultural Centre at South Brisbane.
