Gundagai is a town on Sheridan Street in south New South Wales. Its closest capital city is actually Canberra (show me) in the Australian Capital Territory about 100km to the east-southeast (the capital of New South Wales is Sydney (show me), about 310km away to the east-northeast of Gundagai). With a population of around 2,000, Gundagai is one of the smaller towns in Australia. Gundagai is at an altitude of approximately 235m. The nearest sea is the Tasman Sea which is part of the South Pacific Ocean about 200km east-southeast of Gundagai.

Gundagai is on the Murrumbidgee River.

The nearest more populous place is the town of Tumut which is 28km away with a population of around 6,200 (show me a map with Gundagai and Tumut).
