The 6" guns mounted in the fort can cover a radius of 5.25 Kms of the strategic shipping routes around the North of Australia.

Three 6" were placed in the Fort built in 1893 to counter the threat of Russian invasion. They were never fired in war indicating the effective defence they offered. This is the view South East to the tip of Australia.
