On a sign by the ruins:
"Built in the late 1930s, this small, slab hut later served as a venue for those who wished to indulge in a quite chat and some liquid refreshments.
In 1957, by which time it had no door, the hut provided accommodation for the overflow from the [Mount Franklin] Chalet during the Balmain Cup skiing competition.
In the cramped conditions, one Kiandra skier was less than impressed when his sleeping bag caught alight. He was head mumbling as he moved towards the open doorway - "Bloody lunatics over there...trying to burn a man alive."
