Kogarah is a suburb of south-southwest Sydney in east New South Wales and has a population of around 12,000 (49.6% male, 50.4% female). Around 3008 families live in the area and of those 39.8% have one or more children under the age of 15. 16.3% of families have only a single parent while 35.3% of couples have no children. Kogarah covers an area of approximately 263 hectares (651 acres).

The most common income bracket for people living in Kogarah is between $400-$599 per week (12.5% of people). 10.3% have no income and high income earners ($2000 or more per week) account for 2.2% of the population.

Of the 4306 private dwellings in Kogarah 28% are owned outright by their occupiers, 26% are being purchased (eg. by mortgage) and 42% are being rented.
