Blue Mountain Heights has a population of around 740 and is one of the smaller towns in Australia. At about 704m above sea level, Blue Mountain Heights is one of the higher villages in Queensland. The nearest sea is the Coral Sea which is part of the South Pacific Ocean about 110km east-northeast of Blue Mountain Heights.

Blue Mountain Heights is just off the Gowrie Creek.
