Vere was a small village, around 1924 coal deposits became apparent with in it's area. A Coal Washery now is in the place of were the village once was. You can see the Washery on the horizon in this photo. Nothing is left of the village.

Just on the outskirts of Broke is 'Millhole Bridge' this name came from an mill that once stood nearby. The creek name of 'Monkey Place' origins come from the first settlers when they had mistaken koalas for monkeys. The creek is one of the many that feed run off water to Wollombi Brook. On the other side of the bridge is a left hand turn onto Charlton Rd. this takes you through to the Putty Rd. it is a tar road. Charlton Rd is part of the Old Convict Trail.
