New arrivals from Great Britain pictured in front of the Queensland Tourist Office in Sydney in 1926.
' We were a mixture of English, Scotch and Welsh. The ship was the Hobsons Bay which had sister ships, Jervis Bay, Esperence Bay and Largs Bay owned by the Commonwealth Line. We left England on the 3rd August 1926 and arrived at Freemantle on the 20th September 1926. Our destination was Brisbane but oweing to a bad list to port, caused by shifting cargo, we were put ashore in Sydney. From there we entrained to Brisbane and the immigration depot at Kangaroo Point.
Place of departure in England was Tilibory Docks London. Fare from England was 34 Pounds. We were all sent to various farms in the State of Qld. we received 10 [shillings] per week of which part was kept by the immigration office to repay part of fare.'
