Bermagui is a coastal town on the Cobargo Bermagui Road in southeast New South Wales. Its closest capital city is actually Canberra (show me) in the Australian Capital Territory about 150km to the northwest (the capital of New South Wales is Sydney (show me), about 300km away to the north-northeast of Bermagui). With a population of around 1,300, Bermagui is one of the smaller towns in Australia. Bermagui is at an altitude of about 14m above sea level.

Bermagui is on the Bermagui River.

The nearest more populous place is the town of Narooma which is 23km away with a population of around 3,400 (show me a map with Bermagui and Narooma).

Game Fishing in Bermagui

Bermagui is a popular location for game fishing due to the continental shelf being relatively close to Bermagui and Bermagui being a deep water port with no dangerous bar. Indeed, in the 1930's American author Zane Grey pioneered game fishing in Australia from Bermagui.
