Compared to the rest of Australia, Dampier experiences exceptionally high daytime temperatures, overnight temperatures and wind speed. It also experiences far below average rainfall and humidity levels. Numbers of clear days are above average and numbers of cloudy days are below average.

Dampier has a wet and a dry season. The wet season in Dampier begins around January and ends around July. Over the course of the wet season, Dampier receives around 232.6mm of rain. By comparison, in the dry season from August to December, less than 21.3mm of rain falls in total. At the height of the wet season in February it rains on average 5.7 days in that one month. Indeed, Dampier has experienced as much as 140mm in a single March day and as much as 287.5mm in a single month (March).

Temperatures in the wet season average between 26.1 and 36.2OC during the day and 13.4 and 26.5OC overnight. Temperatures in the dry season average between 27.7 and 35.7OC during the day and 14.6 and 24.6OC at night.
