Stokes Hut

Venables Hut built near the site of the former Stokes Hut which no longer exists. This hut was built relatively recently for the management of cattle grazing in the Goobarragandra valley. The original Stokes Hut was of split timber construction and built closer to the river. The Stokes brothers used it for thir extensive alluvial gold mining operations which are still evident throughout the valley. Many of the out buildings of Venables Hut were made of timber taken from the original Stokes Hut. Most of those out buildings are now demolished. Due to its proximity to the site of the former Stokes Hut, Venables hut is marked on some maps as "Stokes Hut". It is also sometimes refered to as "Plonkey's Hut". There is an extensive bottle repository nearby.
