    Murray River (WA) at Nanga

The upper Murray River above the Darling Scarp is a different stream to its continuation below on the Swan Coastal Plain. Smaller and wilder where it winds through the jarrah forest, it attracts the attention of campers, canoeists and anglers fishing for redfin perch and trout. Water quality issues mean the river hasn't been seen as a damming proposition to date - other nearby rivers have been. Water quality does compromise the fishing somewhat, as do the low summer levels and flow. But fish are there to be had if one is prepared to explore beyond the popular locations.
