Bridge over Dawesville Channel

Dawesville Channel was excavated and opened in the 1990s. It has become a major boat- and shore-angling venue in the Peel District. The nature of fishing in the nearby Harvey Estuary has mostly changed for the better because of the Channel, which was opened to alleviate a very serious algal bloom problem in the system. In this it has been largely successful, at least in the wider waters directly inland. The feeder rivers still have occasional problems.
