Arthur Benham arrived in Townsville on the ship 'Hereford' on 25 August 1883. Arthur cleared and worked land as a tin miner. He was joined by his brother Edwin, and they remained batchelors working together on many mining ventures. Arthur Benham's name was given to Mt. Benham and a bush walking trail named Benham's Trail.
